List of endemic species of Montenegro

Last updated

Fauna

Montenegro is one of two and the main hotspot for troglobitic fauna in Western Balkans (though fragments of this hotspot reach into the easternmost tips of Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina). The other is in Slovenia, but the intensity there is far lower. [1] Map of species and subspecies richness in Western Balkans.jpg It hosts over 280 endemic species, with more than 75 of them troglobiotic. At least 30 of these belong to Leptodirini beetles. [1]
