Sathya Seelan, a designer who keeps dodging marriage proposals, is finally cornered by his fed-up sister, who fixes a matchmaking meeting without revealing any details about the girl. Reluctantly, Sathya shows up and meets Monisha, a social media influencer. The conversation starts awkwardly but takes an unexpected turn when Monisha realises Sathya was her senior back in school.
Sathya opens up about his unrequited love for Anisha from their school days. Sathya, his friend Dinesh, and Anisha were classmates. Sathya was head over heels in love with Anisha—he wouldn't even write his weekly exam without seeing her. On one occasion when Anisha was absent from school, he submitted the paper without writing a word, for which he got beatings from their teacher, Swaminathan. After becoming a bit closer, Sathya decides to confess his feelings on her birthday but fails to do so. Soon their exams end, and during the school annual day, he tells his friend that he will propose to Anisha today. To which his friend confesses that Anisha has a boyfriend—none other than the friend himself—leaving Sathya heartbroken.
Now Monisha opens up about her story. In the same school, 10th graders Monisha, Vinu, and Sandhya—the backbenchers who stayed at the school hostel. On one exam day, Monisha asks Balaji (a studious fellow classmate) to pass the paper to her fellow classmate. After a few moments, he gets caught by their teacher, who asks him to name the culprit. But he remains tight-lipped. The teacher holds him responsible for the incident and reports him to the principal, causing a huge issue. Monisha, enraged by the teacher's actions, breaks her glasses when she was washing her face.As time passes, Monisha's interest in Balaji grows. She joins the tuition center where Balaji studies and starts getting closer to him. After her friend Vinu's advice, she decides to propose to him soon. But when she is about to say it, she blurts out, asking him whether he studied for the upcoming exam. When they witness their seniors (Sathya and his friend) fighting with a boy from another school, Balaji asks Monisha to leave soon and runs from the scene. Monisha narrates the incident to her friends, and her friend Sandhya spills it to the entire class. The whole class starts mocking Balaji, making him feel bad, after which he stops speaking to Monisha. During year-end when students start writing slam books, Monisha gifts one to Balaji, hoping he will write something and return it. When he doesn't, she decides to speak to him on their last exam day, but suddenly her mother shows up, causing her to leave early. On their school annual day, she decides to apologize for what happened and ask about the slam book. Before she can do so, a problem erupts between parents and Swaminathan sir in the end, causing Sathya to slap him.
After finishing narrating their parts of the story, Monisha pitches an unusual idea: before committing to each other, they should reconnect with the people they once loved and seek closure for unresolved emotions from their past. Next day, Monisha visits Sathya's home to plan about how can they find about Anisha and Balaji. Sathya who is more interested to impress Monisha does not care about their plan , this enrages Monisha and she confronts him about his activities. At night, they call Sathya's friend Dinesh to get to know about Anisha he says that Anisha moved to abroad after marriage but promises to get her number by morning. Soon after they both go to Trichy for Monisha's friend Santhosh wedding hoping to get some clue for their plan. Monisha reveals about the incident that happened during their school Annual day back then when her friend Sandhya slaps Santhosh who was her boyfriend back then. He threatens to leak her photos, when she was sharing about this incident to Vinu. Their teacher Swaminathan comes and inquires about what happened when he sees her crying. Parents misunderstood the situation and causes problem which led to Sathya slapping him. Monisha asks Sathya to ask sorry to him and he agrees and apologizes to him.
Sathya gets a follow request from a strange instagram id who follows Monisha and have commented in her posts frequently. He asks her about it she says he is a big fan of hers. Also she says that he texted her after seeing the photo of Sathya and her in her instagram story. He enquires what did he text about , she did not give an answer. Sathya who is fueled by his insecurity goes to check her phone while she was sleeping stating that he wants to make a call. When the anonymous user texted about who Sathya is she mentions that he is her would be. After a while Monisha finds that Sathya sneaked into her chat she storms him out of her room. With Love received positive reviews from critics.
Yashaswini Sri of The Indian Express gave 4/5 stars and wrote "With Love is the kind of film that won’t blow you away with spectacle, but it will sit quietly in your chest for days afterward." [24] Avinash Ramachandran of Cinema Express gave 3/5 stars and wrote "Powered by convincing performances, With Love reins in the urge to be just another launch vehicle, and ends up finding magic in the chaos of love". [25] Roopa Radhakrishnan of The Times of India gave 3/5 stars and wrote "With Love works far better when the interactions and one-liner jokes are character-specific rather than when it resorts to being overly generalised. With Love doesn't reinvent the genre. It follows a conventional pattern but finds the charm in its likeable lead performances, Sean Roldan’s vibrant music and a lovely supporting cast." [26]
Anusha Sundar of OTTPlay gave 2.5/5 stars and wrote "With Love is a film that is as casual and breezy as it gets. It has the ingredients of a romantic drama, even if the proportions are a little high or low at times." [27] K Janani of India Today gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "With Love scores big in interconnecting the stories of Abishan and Anaswara well, but it lacks the cohesiveness to emerge as a fully satisfying romantic drama." [28] Bhuvanesh Chandar of The Hindu wrote "Though written with a lot of heart and a conviction to make a simple and sweet meet-cute, debutant Madhan’s film ends up as a middling rom-com that lacks inner scaffolding". [29] Kirubhakar Purushothaman of The Federal also reviewed the film. [30] [31]
With Love earned around ₹19.65 crore in its first ten days, narrowly missing the ₹20 crore mark by the end of its second weekend. [32]
