Howard Henry Baker Jr. was an American politician,diplomat and photographer who served as a United States Senator from Tennessee from 1967 to 1985. During his tenure,he rose to the rank of Senate Minority Leader and then Senate Majority Leader. A member of the Republican Party,Baker was the first Republican to be elected to the U.S. Senate in Tennessee since the Reconstruction era.
William Grawn Milliken was an American businessman and politician who served as the 44th governor of Michigan from 1969 to 1983. A member of the Republican Party,he assumed the governorship following the resignation of George Romney and went on to win three terms in 1970,1974,and 1978,becoming the longest-serving governor in Michigan history. During this period he dealt with dramatic changes to the state economy,due to industrial restructuring and challenges to the auto industry,resulting in loss of jobs and population from Detroit,the state's largest city. He also oversaw the PBB crisis and adopted a policy of environmental protection and conservation.

In 2010 he was a candidate for Governor in the Republican Primary,losing to Rick Snyder and two other candidates. As of 2024,Bouchard is the only Republican countywide elected official in Oakland County.

Congressman James Blanchard defeated Michigan Senate Majority Leader William B. Fitzgerald Jr. by a wide margin a fractured seven way race. Blanchard won the general election by a relatively comfortable 6.31% margin. Blanchard became the first Democrat to win the governor’s mansion in Michigan in 22 years.

During the 1970s,she was one of Michigan's leading proponents of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution.
