On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes , 76% of 17 critics' reviews are positive. [5] Metacritic , which uses a weighted average , assigned the film a score of 74 out of 100, based on eight critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. [6]

Peter Debruge of Variety wrote, "In its more philosophical moments, The Oldest Person in the World is the best kind of cinematic experience: an entertaining and enlightening 'meaning of life' movie." [3]
