The University of Alberta is a public research university located in Edmonton,Alberta,Canada. It was founded in 1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford,the first premier of Alberta,and Henry Marshall Tory,the university's first president. It was enabled through the Post-secondary Learning Act. David Howard Turpin is a Canadian scholar and the former university president. Turpin was the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Alberta (2015–2020) and the University of Victoria.
The Hardy Trophy is a Canadian sport trophy,presented annually to the winner of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association Football Conference of U Sports,the country's governing body for university athletics. It is named for Evan Hardy,the former head of the agricultural engineering department at the University of Saskatchewan,who had played for the Huskies for its first five years before a rule that only students could play. Hardy continued on as coach and created a western university league. The original trophy was replaced in 1997 after it fell apart during an on-field celebration of the Huskies win in 1996 at home at Griffiths Stadium. The original Hardy trophy was unearthed beneath a pile of storage boxes in 2008 at the University of Saskatchewan. Since 2018,the trophy has been with Canada West conference staff,and has occasionally been displayed at conference football events.

James Francis Dinning is a Canadian Progressive Conservative politician and businessman. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (1986–1997),and now is on the board of directors of several Canadian companies. Dinning ran for the leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives to replace Ralph Klein as Premier of Alberta. Dinning raised over $2 million for his leadership bid but was ultimately defeated by Ed Stelmach when party members voted for Klein's replacement on December 2,2006. In June 2010,he was selected as the 12th Chancellor of the University of Calgary. Dinning is an advisor to Canada's Ecofiscal Commission.

He was a member of the Order of Canada as well as the Royal Society of Canada,the Engineering Institute of Canada and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Ronald Norman Dalby was a Canadian engineer. He served as chancellor of the University of Alberta from 1974 to 1978. Dalby was born in Edmonton and attended primary schooling there. He attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He then worked as a manager for Imperial Oil and Northwestern Utilities. From 1967 to 1968 and from 1973 to 1974,he was president of the Association of Professional Engineers,Geologists,and Geophysicists of Alberta. Dalby continued to work in the utility industry as an executive,and was vice president of Canadian Utilities Limited when he was elected chancellor of the University of Alberta in 1984. He died in 2014.
Linda Jean Hughes,is a Canadian newspaper publisher. She served as Chancellor of the University of Alberta from 2008 to 2012. Hughes was educated at the University of Victoria. She worked for the Edmonton Journal from 1976 to her retirement in 2006,eventually rising to the position of Publisher and President,the first woman in Canada to hold the position of publisher of a major newspaper. She serves on the board of Torstar. In 2016,she was appointed to the Alberta Order of Excellence.
Andrew Robert "Bob" Turner is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2015 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-Whitemud as a member of the Alberta New Democratic Party. He won his seat with 12,803 votes,defeating incumbent health minister and former mayor of Edmonton,Stephen Mandel by 5,622 votes,or around 57% of the vote to Mandel's 32%. Mandel had previously beaten Turner in an October,2014 by-election after Mandel was appointed as an unelected minister by then-Premier Jim Prentice.
