Pierre van der Westhuyzen (born August 18, 2003) is a South African canoeist. He represented Australia at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He was educated at Michaelhouse, Balgowan, KwaZulu Natal. [2]
Van der Westhuyzen was born in Bellville, South Africa, and grew up in Cape Town. He and his brother, Jean, began canoeing while attending Michaelhouse in KwaZulu-Natal. [3] [4]
He competed at the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in the K-4 500 metres event and finished in fourth place with a time of 1:19.905. As a result, they qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [5] At the Olympics he competed in the K-4 500 metres event and won a silver medal. [6] Following a photo finish, they missed winning the gold medal by 0.04 seconds. [7]
