Loricariichthys hauxwelli, [3] is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Loricariidae, the mailed catfishes, and the subfamily Loricariinae, the armoured suckermouth catfishes. [2] This catfish is endemic to Peru, where it occurs in the Amazon River basin. [1] This species reaches a maximum standard length of 18 cm (7.1 in) and is thought to be a facultative air breather. [4] The specific name, hauxwelli, honours the collector of the holotype, the British naturalist, explorer and bird collecter, John Hauxwell. [5]
