Sri Lanka,formerly known as Ceylon and officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka,is an island country in South Asia. It lies in the Indian Ocean,southwest of the Bay of Bengal,separated from the Indian peninsula by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. Sri Lanka shares a maritime border with the Maldives in the south-west and India in the north-west.

The Indian intervention in the Sri Lankan Civil War was the deployment of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka intended to perform a peacekeeping role. He was well versed in Sinhala,Pali,Sanskrit,English,Buddhism,history,arithmetic,and archaeology and was one of the primary sources of information on Buddhism for the success of the Panadura debate.

The Kingdom played a major role throughout the history of Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1476. The kingdom located in the central part of Sri Lanka managed to remain independent from both the Portuguese and Dutch rule who controlled coastal parts of Sri Lanka;however,it was colonised by the British in 1815.
