Henry Lovell was a Canadian politician. Born in Barnston,Stanstead County,Lower Canada,the son of William Lovell and Mary Hanson,Lovell was a farmer and merchant. He moved to Coaticook,Quebec in 1867. He was a municipal councilor in Coaticook from 1876 to 1885 and again from 1888 to 1891. He was mayor from 1874 to 1875 and from 1886 to 1887. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in 1878 for the riding of Stanstead. A Quebec Liberal,he was defeated in 1881 and 1886. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for Stanstead in 1900. A Liberal,he was re-elected in 1904. He died while in office in 1907. His son,Charles Henry Lovell,was elected in the 1908 by-election following the death of his father. His other son,Moodie Brock Lovell,was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec.

Harriett Ellen Grannis Arey was a 19th-century American educator,author,editor,and publisher. Raised in New England,she was one of the first women in the United States to study in a co-educational environment. In Cleveland,Ohio,she became a contributor to The Daily Cleveland Herald and taught at a girls' school. After marrying,she moved to Wisconsin,and served as "Preceptress and Teacher of English Literature,French,and Drawing" at State Normal School in Whitewater,Wisconsin. After returning to Cleveland,she edited a monthly publication devoted to charitable work,and served on the board of the Woman's Christian Association. Arey was a co-founder and first president of the Ohio Woman's Press Association. Her principal writings were Household Songs and Other Poems and Home and School Training. Arey died in 1901.
The British American Land Company (BALC) was a company formed in 1832 for the purpose of purchasing land and encouraging British immigration to Lower Canada. It was founded and promoted by John Galt,Edward Ellice and others to acquire and manage the development of almost 1,100,000 acres of Crown land and other lands in the Eastern Townships of Lower Canada,in order to encourage the immigration of British subjects to the region. In comparison to the Canada Company,a similar enterprise in Upper Canada that thrived through collaboration with the local government,the BALC indulged in land speculation,made immigration a secondary priority,and struggled throughout its existence.
Stanstead was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of the Province of Canada,in Canada East. It was south-east of Montreal,in the Eastern Townships. Created in 1841,it was based on the previous electoral district of the same name for the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada.
