Jenna Meek is an entrepreneur from Bishop Auckland. She founded The Gypsy Shrine in 2016, which she subsequently renamed to Shrine and sold in 2024, and Refy in 2020, which she cofounded with Jess Hunt. She also appeared as a guest dragon on Dragon's Den in 2026.
Meek was born in Bishop Auckland and attended that town's St John's Catholic School. In summer 2003, she and a friend organised a charity drive for Operation Christmas Child which raised more than 40 shoe boxes full of writing equipment and other gifts. [1] [2] She read international fashion marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University and interned at Hugo Boss in New York aged 19 before working for Christopher Raeburn and Emilia Wickstead. A move to Burberry in 2015 extinguished her interest in fashion and she set up a year later Shrine, [3] then known as The Gypsy Shrine. [4] Meek started the firm by individually applying biodegradable glitter paint and jewels to festivalgoers' faces and bodies [3] [2] and later hired Sophie Tea to help out. [3]
In 2017, while with Tea and two other women at a ski festival in the French Alps, Meek took photos of the other three others topless with their chests covered in glitter; the three went viral as a result, with "glitter boobs" becoming a popular outfit choice for that year's festivalgoers. [5] Meek appeared on Love Island that year to decorate that year's contestants. [2] The firm also diversified into an all-in-one face jewels kit and found itself listed in PrettyLittleThing, ASOS, and Topshop. [3] It also opened a branch in Carnaby Street. [6] Meek stopped making face jewels on environmental grounds after retailers launched copycat versions and instead diversified into temporary hair dyes. [3]
Meek cofounded Refy in 2020 with influencer Jess Hunt after meeting her at a photoshoot. The firm launched in November that year with an eyebrow gel [3] and later launched various lines of makeup, bodycare, fashion, clothing, and skincare. [7] She married her partner in July 2021 [8] and appeared in Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2022. [8] Meek sold Shrine in 2024 after finding herself unable to juggle both it and Refy [3] and made No. 13 on The Sunday Times's beauty rich list in 2025. [9] [2] By January 2026, she was thought to be worth between £52 and £53 million. [8] That month, she appeared as the first of four guest dragons on Dragons' Den, replacing fellow St John's alumnus Sara Davies.
