As an aeronautical engineer, through PT Regio Aviasi Industri, he initiated the Regio Prop Program, a domestic commercial aircraft project that is a further development of the IPTN N-250. [5] [6] He collaborated with Erry Firmansyah, the former president director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), to establish PT Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI). Following in his parents' footsteps, he has focused on fulfilling his father's dream for Indonesia to continue producing its own aircraft. [7]

In the 2024 West Java gubernatorial election, he ran as a candidate for Vice Governor of West Java alongside Ahmad Syaikhu, supported by the PKS and the Nasdem Party. [8]

Education

Ilham was born and raised in West Germany, where he lived for nearly 31 years while accompanying his father. He attended Elementary School Windmuehlenweg and High School Hochrad in Hamburg before pursuing his higher education at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). [9] He completed his studies at TUM, earning degrees from engineering to a doctorate in aeronautical engineering with summa cum laude honors. [10]

Personal life and family

Ilham Habibie married Insana Abdul Adjid in 1987 in Jakarta. Their wedding reception was held according to Gorontaloan customs, reflecting the heritage of the Habibie family's ancestral home in Kabila, Gorontalo. [11]

His Gorontaloan ancestry traces back to his great-grandparents in Gorontalo, who were prominent cattle and horse breeders, traditional leaders, and respected religious figures in the region. [12]

The B.J. Habibie family has maintained a significant focus on development in Gorontalo, particularly through educational initiatives. This includes the establishment of MAN Insan Cendekia Gorontalo, founded one year after the first MAN Insan Cendekia in Serpong. Additionally, the family has provided various scholarship programs for students in the province. [13] [14]

Ilham and Insana have three children: Nadia Habibie, Muhammad Pasha Nur Fauzan Habibie, and Tifani Mutiarahati Rahima Tahira Habibie. Nadia was born in Munich, Pasha in the United States, and Tifani in Bandung.[ citation needed ]
