Cairo University, also known as the Egyptian University from 1908 to 1940, and King Fuad I University and Fu'ād al-Awwal University from 1940 to 1952, is Egypt's premier public university. Its main campus is in Giza, immediately across the Nile from Cairo. It was founded on 21 December 1908; however, after being housed in various parts of Cairo, its faculties, beginning with the Faculty of Arts, were established on its current main campus in Giza in October 1929. It is the second oldest institution of higher education in Egypt after Al Azhar University, notwithstanding the pre-existing higher professional schools that later became constituent colleges of the university. It was founded and funded as the Egyptian University by a committee of private citizens with royal patronage in 1908 and became a state institution under King Fuad I in 1925. In 1940, four years following his death, the university was renamed King Fuad I University in his honor. It was renamed a second time after the Egyptian revolution of 1952. The university currently enrolls approximately 155,000 students in 20 faculties and 3 institutions. It counts three Nobel Laureates among its graduates and is one of the 50 largest institutions of higher education in the world by enrollment.
Ahmed Nazif served as the Prime Minister of Egypt from 14 July 2004 to 29 January 2011, when his cabinet was dismissed by President Hosni Mubarak in light of a popular uprising that led to the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. Nazif was Acting President of Egypt from 5 March to 15 April 2010, when President Mubarak delegated his authorities to Nazif while undergoing surgery in Germany.
Tarek Galal Shawki (born June 12, 1957, in Cairo, Egypt) is the former minister of education in Egypt. He was the Dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo (AUC). This academic assignment started on 1 September 2012 following a four-year tenure as the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in Arab States [2008-2012] located in Cairo, Egypt. Prior to his UNESCO Cairo Office appointment in June 2008, he was the Chief of the Section for "ICTs in Education, Science and Culture" within the "Information Society Division" in UNESCO headquarters. Dr. Shawki has served as the regional advisor for Communications and Information at the UNESCO Cairo Office (UCO) between January 1999 and November 2005. The UCO is a regional office for science, technology, and information for Arab states. Shawki has been a panelist on the National Science Foundation and the National Research Council. His leadership is considered paramount to the Arab region in modernizing university education in basic and engineering sciences, through the promotion of the Mathematica technology.
Ain Shams University is a public university located in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 1950, the university provides education at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels.

Prof. Dr William Selim Hanna (1896–1980), born in Assiut, Egypt وليم سليم حنا, was an Egyptian Minister of Housing. A prominent structural engineer, Hanna completed his education in Alexandria and Cairo and graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of Cairo University in 1920 with an engineering diploma. He then traveled to England and joined the University of Birmingham, where he earned a bachelor's degree with first place honors in Civil Engineering in 1923. He studied for a doctorate in the same university and received his PhD in 1926.
Ahmed Gamal El-din Moussa was the Minister of Education and Higher Education in Egypt, during 2011. Prior to his appointment following a cabinet reshuffle led by PM Ahmed Shafik, he was the Minister of Education. Professor Moussa is the founder and Present Managing Partner of the Arab Law Firm, founded in 2007. Professor Moussa lectures in the faculty of law of Mansoura University.
El Sayed Mahmoud El Sheniti (1920-1995) was an Egyptian academic and government official who contributed to the development of professional librarianship in Egypt in the latter half of the twentieth century. El Sheniti was born on November 25, 1920, in Egypt. He received his Ph.D. in Library Science from the University of Chicago in 1960. His doctoral dissertation was titled The University Library and the Scholar: A Study of the Recorded Faculty Use of a Large University Library.

The German University in Cairo is a private non-profit university in New Cairo, Egypt. GUC was founded in 2002 by the presidential decree 27/2002 and according to the Egyptian law number 101/1992. The University of Stuttgart, the University of Ulm, the University of Tübingen, the University of Mannheim, the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany, are among the main academic supporters of the GUC.
