Parliamentary elections were held in Zimbabwe on 31 March 2005 to elect members to the Zimbabwe House of Assembly. All of the 120 elected seats in the 150-seat House of Assembly were up for election.
Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara is a Zimbabwean politician. He became the president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in February 2006. He has worked as a director and CEO of Africa Technology and Business Institute since September 2003. Tendai Laxton Biti is a Zimbabwean politician who served as Finance Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. He was the Secretary-General of the Movement for Democratic Change and the subsequent Movement for Democratic Change –Tsvangirai (MDC-T) political parties and a Member of Parliament for Harare East until he was expelled from the party and recalled from parliament in mid-2014,before winning the seat again in 2018.
Nelson Chamisa is a Zimbabwean politician and the current President of the Citizens Coalition For Change. He served as Member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for Kuwadzana East,Harare. Chamisa was the MDC Alliance's candidate for president in the 2018 general election,having previously been the leader of the party's youth assembly. He has served as the former chairperson of national youth for the same party as well as the Secretary for Information and Publicity for the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). In 2003,at the age of 25,Chamisa became the youngest Member of Parliament.
Elias Mudzuri is a Zimbabwean engineer and politician. Mudzuri was elected to a four-year term as Mayor of Harare,a city of 1.8 million,in March 2002. He was Acting president of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T). Trained in Sierre Leone as a civil engineer,the mayor is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers. Before becoming mayor,he had worked in local government for fourteen years. He is married to Jabu Mudzuri,a Swazi national,and the couple have five children. Mr. Mudzuri was a Mason Fellow in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and also holds Masters in Public Administration from the University.
Zimbabwe began experiencing a period of considerable political and economic upheaval in 1999. Opposition to President Mugabe and the ZANU-PF government grew considerably after the mid-1990s in part due to worsening economic and human rights conditions. The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was established in September 1999 as an opposition party founded by trade unionist Morgan Tsvangirai.
Amos Bernard Muvengwa Midzi was a Zimbabwean politician who served in the Cabinet successively as Minister of Energy and Power Development and Minister of Mines and Mining Development from 2002 to 2009.
The second round of voting in the Zimbabwean presidential election of 2008 was held between Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai after the first round failed to produce a 50% majority for either candidate. The election process was marred by violence against and intimidation of voters and party workers,which eventually led to the withdrawal of Tsvangirai from the poll. This left Mugabe as the winner of,effectively,a one-candidate election.

The Movement for Democratic Change –Tsvangirai (MDC–T) is a centre-left political party and was the main opposition party in the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe ahead of the 2018 elections. After the split of the original Movement for Democratic Change in 2005,the MDC–T remained the major opposition faction,while a smaller faction,the Movement for Democratic Change –Ncube,or MDC–N,was led by Welshman Ncube.
Morgan Richard Tsvangirai was a Zimbabwean politician who was Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. He was President of the Movement for Democratic Change,and later the Movement for Democratic Change –Tsvangirai (MDC–T),and a key figure in the opposition to former President Robert Mugabe.
General elections were held in Zimbabwe on 29 March 2008 to elect the President and Parliament. Because of Zimbabwe's dire economic situation,the elections were expected to provide incumbent President Robert Mugabe with his toughest electoral challenge to date. Mugabe's opponents were critical of the handling of the electoral process,and the government was accused of planning to rig the election. Human Rights Watch said that the election was likely to be "deeply flawed."
James Hamilton Iain Kay is a Zimbabwean farmer and politician who served in the House of Assembly from 2009 to 2013. Previously,he was a commercial farmer near Marondera,Mashonaland East Province. He was also the subject of violent attacks by ZANU–PF war veterans during the land reform program after the 2000 parliamentary elections.
Michael Theodore Hayes Auret was a Zimbabwean farmer,politician,and activist. A devout Catholic,he served as chairman and later director of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe (CCJP) from 1978 until 1999. He also served as a member of Parliament for Harare Central from 2000 to 2003,when he resigned and emigrated to Ireland.
The Harare City Council is the local governing body of Harare,the capital of Zimbabwe. It is composed of 46 councillors,each representing a different ward. It is headed by the mayor of Harare,who is assisted by a deputy mayor. Since 2018,the mayor is Herbert Gomba and the deputy mayor is Enock Mupamawonde,both of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
Herbert Thomas Gomba is a Zimbabwean politician who has served as mayor of Harare since 2018. He has been a member of the Harare City Council since 2008 representing Ward 27,which covers parts of the Glen Norah suburb. Herbert Gomba was elected and sworn in as mayor on 3 September 2018. He is a member of the Movement for Democratic Change party.
Oriah Anthony Gara was a Zimbabwean businessman and politician. He was a member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for Mbare East from 1990 to 2000 and served as deputy minister of local government,rural and urban development from 1995 until 2000. Before entering Parliament,he was a member of the Harare City Council and served as mayor of Harare from 1985 to 1986.
