John James Boland was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Minister for Health from January 1987 to March 1987,Minister for the Environment from 1986 to 1987,Minister for the Public Service from 1982 to 1986 and Minister for Education from 1981 to 1982. He served as chair of the Public Service Commissioner,secretary to the Prime Minister,and as Fiji's permanent representative to the United Nations,as well as a Cabinet Minister in the governments of Mahendra Chaudhry and Laisenia Qarase,and in the military regime of Frank Bainimarama. Bune died of prostate cancer on 22 November 2023,at the age of 77.
