Anna Karenina is a 1977 BBC television adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name. [1]
It stars Nicola Pagett as Anna, [2] [3] Eric Porter as Karenin, [3] Stuart Wilson as Vronsky, [3] Davyd Harries as Stiva, [4] Robert Swann as Levin, [4] and Caroline Langrishe as Kitty. [4]
It consisted of ten 50-minute episodes, [3] and so, according to Apple TV, was able to include more of the original plot than some adaptations. [1] It was mostly favourably received by critics. The Los Angeles Times said the series was "admirable" and that Pagett was "ravishing" as Anna. [5]
The series was nominated for three BAFTA TV Awards, for Best Lighting, Best Costume Design, and Best Make Up; and for one Primetime Emmy Award, for Outstanding Art Direction for a Drama Series. [6]
