Plot

In a distant future of 2370, a global totalitarian entity known as "The Organisation" has achieved total world domination. They have depleted the earth's natural resources and are hunting for the "Star Dust" to keep their reign intact. Resistance fighters in this era led by Babba & his companions realize that the only way to stop The Organisation is to prevent the gem from ever being found in the past however reveals that timelines can intersect and that In this reality, the past, present, and future coexist simultaneously, with actions in one timeline affecting the others. Death is not final; those who die in one era are reborn in another.

In 2025, Shaji Pappan and his loyal, bumbling gang are in their usual state of financial ruin. Desperate for "free cash," Pappan learns of a massive bridge explosion scheduled for demolition after seeing his friend Battery Simon at court. He believes that scavenging the high-grade scrap metal and hidden "black money" rumored to be stashed in the bridge's foundation will solve all their problems.

In 1750, Sultan Azam Khan searches for a legendary artifact hidden by King Padmanabhan. The gem is rumored to possess the power to bend time. It is eventually revealed that the gem was entrusted to Walter Sahib, the great-great-grandfather of the notorious High Range Ghost Satan Xavier. A bridge — Nagathan Bridge is being made by Vareeth, the incarnation of the present Sarbath Shameer

However, their quest for quick money leads them into a much larger conspiracy. Pappan crosses paths with Satan, a mysterious figure who reveals that the bridge sits atop the burial site of Walter Sahib’s treasure. Simultaneously, the legendary hitman DUDE resurfaces in Kerala, having learnt of a jackpot from his friend Soman. DUDE is no longer just a mercenary and works at the border of Tamil Nadu; The owner of whom is the nephew of the previous owner whom DUDE worked at — The Porotta Shop. DUDE finds solace hanging out with his newly befriended donkey Anthony.

Meanwhile, The hunt for the Star Dust leads all parties to the bridge site just as the demolition timer begins. As the explosion occurs, Shaji Pappan, Satan Xavier & Sarbath Shameer make a run for it however DUDE resurfaces in Kerala wearing his iconic red suit and black pants and takes an ancient chest leading to an intense chase as a formidable villain appears out of the horizon who works for The Organisation led by Kate Lata; Satan obtains the chest only for Lara to take it after an interception. Shaji Pappan and his boys chase after it resulting in an intense confrontation.

As the climax unfolds, a timeline infarction occurs — Shaji Pappan, disappears into the stream of time, his destination unknown as King Padmanabhan, pulled forward from the 18th century, suddenly materializes in the middle of modern-day Kerala, bewildered by the 2026 landscape in the middle of an important function as the villagers gather around and confront him whilst DUDE, in a desperate grab to defeat Pappan power, is sucked into the time stream and thrown back into the 1700s, where the villagers recognise him as the Sultan Azam Khan.

Critical reception

Vignesh Madhu of Cinema Express , who rated three out of five stars, described the film as "fun and impressive in scale, but falls just short". He praised its visuals and production value, while criticizing the runtime and ending. [12] Swathi P. Ajith of Onmanorama noted that "Shaji Pappan and gang are still fun, but the film struggles to match its own legacy", pointing that "the humour, which was once the franchise's biggest weapon, is more inconsistent this time". [13] Gopika I. S. of The Times of India , giving two-and-a-half out of five stars, wrote that the film "leaves one with mixed feelings. A film that excels in production quality and acting falls short in screenplay and comedy", adding that "whether it truly lives up to the hype is debatable". She also criticized the runtime. [14]

Sreeju Sudhakaran of Rediff.com , who rated two out of five stars, described the film as "trapped in its own ambition. While it expands the universe in an interesting manner, it loses sight of the tight, irreverent humour that made the previous films click in the first place". [15] Similarly, Sanjith Sidhardhan of OTT Play , also giving two out of five stars, remarked that "Jayasurya's exhausting film is too unsure to be silly, too conflicted to be serious", adding that it "falters in its bid to go bigger, losing both its slapstick humour and narrative grip in the process", while also criticising the runtime. [16]

Vishal Menon of The Hollywood Reporter India called the film "a disappointing Multiverse of Blandness", lamenting that it's "GOAT-ed characters get butchered in this wild bore [...] Instead of figuring a specific brand of humour for each character (like in the previous films), Midhun chooses to repeat the same style of dialogues for all, lending a homogeneous dullness". [17] Rating two out of five stars, Anandu Suresh of The Indian Express described it as a "snoozefest" and "amateurish fan-fiction, despite a fascinating climax", noting that "despite having many elements and an ambitious plot, Aadu 3 ends up being an absolute letdown". [18]
