Two events will take place: the men's tournament and the women's tournament. A total of 16 teams will participate (8 in the men's competition and 8 in the women's). Both the men's and women's squads can consist of up to 6 players, meaning a total of 96 athletes are expected to take part.[1]
The defending gold medallists are United States in the men's event and in the women's category.

Qualification
Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) is allowed to enter one men's team and one women's team into the competition. In order to play at the Games, these teams need to qualify.
