Artist's Note: "The background is created with watercolor and had to be worked in very quickly so I could get the desired look of movement. In fact, I had to use two hands at once. The mermaid figure is entirely colored pencil with a Mardi Gras theme. You can see the traditional colors and she is wearing an elaborate mask with various feathers & gems. She is also wearing the traditional Mardi Gras beads. Her tail ends with three points on each side to mimic a jesters cap. She is also adorned with inlaid sparkles in her mask & tail."
