Playing System

Format

All matches in the team events will be played as a best-of-five series of individual matches, with the following order of play:

The competition will be divided into two stages: [2]

Stage 1: Group Stage

Stage 1a: Group Stage for seedings 1-7 and host nation

  • Teams seeded 1 to 7 and host nation will be drawn into Group 1 and Group 2. (Four teams per group)
  • All teams are guaranteed the spot of knockout stage since the competition is only for determining new seedings.

Stage 1b: Group Stage for the remaining teams

  • The 56 remaining teams will be drawn into Group 3 to Group 16. (Four teams per group, fourteen groups in total)
  • The 14 Group Stage Winner will be advanced to final knockout stage R32.
  • The 14 runner-ups in each group will either go to preliminary knockout stage or final knockout stage R32.
    Runner-ups will join in a single group and compare their results, based on (win:lost) ratio of individual match, games, points in order.
    • Top 6 second ranked teams will be joining in final knockout stage R32.
    • The remaining 8 second ranked teams will need to play in preliminary round of knockout stage. It will decide four extra teams to the final knockout stage R32.

Stage 2: Knockout Stage

Preliminary Knockout Stage

  • Lower ranked 8 runner-ups in Stage 1b will play against each other.
  • 4 winners will be advanced to final knockout stage (R32).

Final Knockout Stage

  • Competition begins in the round of 32.
  • All 8 teams from Stage 1a,
    plus 24 teams in Stage 1b (14 Group Winners + Top 6 second ranked + 4 Preliminary Knockout Stage Winners),
    will compete for the champion.
  • Teams already met in Stage 1b will not be played each other only in first round (R32).

Seeding for Group Stage

A= Advanced to Round of 32 in Stage 1a
A1b= Advanced directly to final knockout stage (R32) in Stage 1b
A1c= Advanced to Round of 32 by winning Knockout Stage Preliminary Round

  1. ↑ England will be participating in stage 1a as host nation, and will be granted seed 8 because England is the lowest ranked among top 7 seeds.
